About the Carer Business Discount Card scheme
The Carer Business Discount Card is an initiative under the Queensland Government's Carer Action Plan 2006-10.The card provides eligible carers with discounts from participating businesses in recognition of their contribution to the people they care for and the community.
Carers play an important and often unrecognised role in the community by providing ongoing support to another person who has a long-term medical condition, mental illness or disability, or is frail or in need of palliative care. Carers are friends, neighbours or family members who in some cases face demands that prevent them from participating in the paid workforce.
The Carer Business Discount Card is available to Queensland carers who receive the Centrelink Carer Payment or Centrelink Carer Allowance and is valid for four years from the date of issue, providing eligibility is maintained.
Businesses are invited to join the scheme to show their support for the local community.
