A New Approach to Homelessness in Queensland

This fact sheet outlines the new approach to homelessness reduction for Queensland, including an overview of the new national framework for homelessness, key stakeholder roles and responsibilities, and an overview of new investment and reform activity to reduce homelessness in Queensland, in partnership with the community services sector.


Responding to Homelessness

Homelessness Programs

The Department provides funding for supported accommodation and related support services for homeless people and those at risk of homelessness. Funding is provided under the Commonwealth/State funded National Affordable Housing Agreement, which replaced the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) from 1 January 2009.

Homelessness funding

Throughout the year, the department provides funding for organisations to deliver homelessness services.

Responding to homelessness

In 2005, the Queensland Government directed $235.52 million in capital and recurrent funds over four years to boost responses to homelessness and public intoxication.

KPMG review of the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program and the Crisis Accommodation Program
