Crisis accommodation for single homeless people with complex needs
Crisis accommodation services assist people with complex needs to resolve their crisis and help them to find an alternative to 'sleeping rough'.
These services support people who may have an entrenched 'street lifestyle', to make sustainable changes in their lives. It provides them with assistance to return to their community, if this is the most appropriate response.
Homeless people are assisted to:
- resolve crises
- access income support and improve their ability to achieve financial security
- access support services
- obtain and/or maintain independent accommodation
People who have been 'sleeping rough' will have their immediate needs met, and be assisted to gain stability so that they are in a position, with support and assistance, to plan and work towards moving to other accommodation.
Roma House, part of Lady Bowen Complex, has been established in Brisbane. The Australian Red Cross Queensland have established a service in Townsville. Additional services are planned for Cairns and the Gold Coast.
The Department of Housing will provide properties for these initiatives under the Crisis Accommodation Program
The crisis accommodation services for homeless people with complex needs are funded through the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program.
