Commonwealth/State funded Homelessness Programs
The Department provides funding for supported accommodation and related support services for homeless people and those at risk of homelessness. Funding is provided under the Commonwealth/State funded National Affordable Housing Agreement (NAHA), which replaced the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) and Crisis Accommodation Program (CAP) from 1 January 2009.
The purpose of the funding is to help people who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness to achieve the maximum possible degree of self-reliance and independence. In pursuing this goal, specialised homelessness services assist clients to resolve crises, re-establish family links where appropriate and re-establish the capacity of clients to live independently.
Services are provided to assist:
- young people
- families
- women and children escaping domestic and family violence
- single men and women.
Information regarding the former SAAP as a national program is available from the Australian Government Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs web site.
All funded specialist homelessness services participate in a National Data Collection. The National Data Collection Agency (NDCA) produces a number of reports related to homelessness, including Queensland specific publications.
Access to further publications and more information about the National Data Collection Agency (NDCA) is available from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare web site.
