Testimonials
Since the first payment was made in December 2007, eligible applicants have shared their experience about the Redress process.
"I was happy about the Level 1 payment I received. I bought a new wheel chair and can now get around."
Evelyn, 72 - South West Queensland
"I wasn’t interested in any payment, I just wanted to find out about my family and why I was there (the institution). Through (the Redress Application process) I got in touch with the institution and now found where my mum and my dad were buried. Health permitting, my wife and I plan to use the payment to fly to the burial plots. It took a while, but it has been worth it."
Dudley, 82 - Burnett
"I was very grateful for the payment, I decided to fly up see my sister, which I never would have been able to afford to do otherwise. I’m going to shout her to the football, I’m really looking forward to it. It’s been a long time coming, but it’s good to finally see some good come from all this. I’d encourage anyone else who is eligible to apply, I even helped my friend apply."
Lorraine, 63 - Brisbane
"I reckon you have to live in the now. Good things happen and bad things have happened in the past, but it’s the now that counts. The memories never go away, so it’s the good things you’ve got to hang on to. I went on a holiday and spent time with some old friends, so I’ve had some good times because of it (the payment). I’ve even started doing some volunteer work the last few years and helping other people so I feel pretty positive now. I do meditation too, which helps me relax."
John, 62 - Brisbane
