Annual Report 2007-08

This year we spent $575.2 million delivering human services across the state, particularly to some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged Queenslanders. A priority for our department in 2007–08 was refocusing our activities to make the best use of funding.

We introduced the Standards for Community Services and new legislation to strengthen community-based services and ensure we deliver and fund quality services.

We reviewed the Child Care Act 2002 and the Juvenile Justice Act 1992 to provide more effective statutory services. Alcohol reforms to Indigenous communities also remained a focus and an additional $15 million in state government funding will see these initiatives expanded in 2008-09.

Another highlight was the support we provided to communities recovering from disaster events. We provided grants to 12,000 people affected by flooding and assisted 3,776 people affected by the equine influenza outbreak.
