Across Queensland
Across Queensland at any given time there are hundreds of people getting together, sharing their stories, promoting their organisations, challenging community perceptions and celebrating achievements. We've captured a snapshot.
Seniors had the time of their lives during Seniors Week from 23-31 August. Statewide events provided a great opportunity for Queenslanders of all ages and backgrounds to join together and celebrate the valuable contributions of seniors. Seniors Week promotes positive attitudes towards older people and ageing, encourages older people to lead active lifestyles and fosters inter-generational relationships. This year, the Department of Communities provided more than $125,000 to community organisations and the Queensland Seniors Council, to assist them to stage local activities.
Disability Action Week kicked off in Townsville on 13 September. The week aims to encourage positive attitudes towards people with a disability, improve access and make our community a better place for everyone. Community events were held around the state with grants from Disability Services Queensland. This year's theme See beyond the disability encourages the community to focus on a person’s achievements and abilities.
