Anti-racism kicks goals

Queenslanders are generally accepting of other people from different backgrounds, but racism does occur and we cannot afford to be complacent.

The Queensland Roars Against Racism campaign is a joint three-year initiative that started in 2007 between Multicultural Affairs Queensland and the Queensland Roar Football Club to bring people from different backgrounds together and break down barriers created by ignorance, fear and prejudice.

During the campaign events and activities are staged to challenge racist attitudes. The game between the Brazilian team Palmeiras and Queensland Roar FC made it clear that there is no room for racism in Queensland.

Racism can have a terrible effect.  If a person is experiencing racism, they may become lonely, isolated, angry and depressed.  They may also try to avoid situations where racism could occur, and pretend to be ill, play truant from school, or be scared to leave their house.
