Community members and organisations have been out and about across Queensland sharing stories, celebrating successes, promoting organisations and pulling together in times of need. Community connect captures a snapshot.
Queensland carers were honoured at a special Carers Recognition ceremony at Parliament House that coincided with the Carers (Recognition) Act 2008 being passed in Parliament which recognises carers' needs and concerns as well as their role in service delivery. The legislation saw the establishment of the Carers Advisory Council and the Office for Carers, established within Disability Services Queensland.
When storms and flooding battered communities in the south east and north west of the state, community recovery staff and dozens of volunteers were out in force working with community members and organisations to provide disaster relief and help affected residents get back on their feet as quickly as possible.
