Creative generation celebrates Q150

More than 3500 state school students will celebrate Queensland's150th birthday when they perform at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on 6 June 2009. The Department of Education, Training and the Arts is hosting Creative Generation — State Schools Onstage. The show will highlight the amazing talent being nurtured in our state schools.

Youth Week 2009

Do you have an important issue or a bright idea that could make Queensland an even better place? Then make a move, get online and share your ideas for Youth Week 2009. If you are aged from 12 to 25, you could win great prizes by entering your creative work in video, photography, animation, sound or word in the Make a Move online competition which opens 2 March.

Calling young volunteers

The search is on for outstanding young volunteers aged 12 to 25. The awards are a great way to recognise and reward young people who work to make a difference to the lives of others. Indigenous education fund

A multi-million dollar fund will increase the availability of education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders. The new Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Foundation will support up to 100 scholarships a year valued at up to $20,000 per student. For more information call 13 13 04.

Healthy could mean wealthy

The Healthy Queensland Awards has a prize pool totalling $1 million for Queensland's Healthiest communities, schools and workplaces. The prize money can be used towards healthy infrastructure such as walking and cycling paths, shade structures, sport and recreation equipment and health programs. Funds for homeless service

Central Queensland's homeless people will benefit from $4.1 million funding for services to provide safe and secure accommodation. Over the next three years the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program funds will support vulnerable Queenslanders, providing stability and security to individuals and families from Winton to Rockhampton.

New Companion Card

The Companion Card program promotes fair ticketing for people with a disability who need the care of a companion to attend activities and venues. Cardholders present their card at participating businesses, pay for their ticket and are issued with a second 'companion' ticket at no charge. The card will be available to eligible people with a disability from March 2009.
