Safe Haven services

Safe Haven services will involve family and community members working closely with community workers, departmental staff and local agencies to work out the needs of children and young people, to safely support the child.

The main focus of a Safe Haven service is keeping children and young people together with their family or extended family and preventing them from entering the statutory system.

A Safe Haven is not about replacing family structures and values but is about giving greater support to all family members in difficult times.

The Safe Haven strategies will help to reduce and prevent domestic and family violence and child abuse within their communities. It will also help communities to develop a sense of belonging and ownership of their Safe Haven services.
