Leonard Yow

Location:
Acacia Ridge

Like his grandfather and father before him, volunteering has been a large part of Len Yow’s life.

His grandfather helped build the Chinese Taoist Temple at Breakfast Creek. His father took over this legacy and Len, in turn, took over from his father. For the past 11 years Len has been the honorary treasurer of the Chinese Temple Society, responsible for raising funds for the temple’s preservation. He also acts as a tour guide for the heritage-listed building.

Len has made a further contribution to Queensland’s Chinese community through his involvement with the Chinese Club of Queensland. As a founding member, Len has volunteered for the club for more than 50 years and today still serves as an honorary member of the club’s executive.

This active 75 year old has also spent many years volunteering with senior ten-pin bowlers at Greenslopes Lanes. Len is currently president of two senior fun leagues, as well as president of the Greenslopes Lanes Bowling Association.

In these roles Len has been responsible for fundraising and applying for funding for social functions, trophy presentations and trips.

This born-and-bred Queenslander continues to make an outstanding contribution to his community, while at the same time honouring his family heritage.
