Phyllis Moran

Location:
Gympie

Back in 1981, Phyllis Moran’s good friend Phyllis Little asked her to help get a free local home-based palliative care service up and running in Gympie.

Twenty-seven years on, Phyllis has had the satisfaction of seeing this good idea grow into Little Haven Palliative Care, a valuable community organisation, through her volunteering.

She has been involved in the organisation since day one. Today, the organisation cares for more than 120 patients a year and provides a bereavement service to more than 150 families.

Phyllis is well known in Gympie for her fundraising for Little Haven and it was her outstanding efforts in running street stalls and raffles and gaining community support and donations that have helped the organisation grow over the years.

And, despite some health problems recently, Phyllis remains on of Little Haven’s most successful raffle-ticket sellers. In fact, if you see her walking down Gympie’s Mary Street with a raffle book in hand it is unlikely you’ll be able to pass without Phyllis hitting you up for a raffle ticket.

Now in her 82nd year, Phyllis maintains her position on the Little Haven board as a life member and is always available for committee meetings. With her sharp mind and gentle wit, she is greatly loved by those who work with her.

She often says, ‘I can’t do much but I’ll do anything’, which is exactly the attitude that has seen the organisation she helped establish continue to grow.
