Margaret Proellocks

Location: Toowoomba

For 60 years, Margaret Proellocks has volunteered her time and talents to preserving Toowoomba's cultural heritage.

Margaret has been involved as a life member and patron of the Toowoomba Philharmonic Society since 1946. In her decade as the society's president from 1985, Margaret was instrumental in the purchase of Laguna in Hume Street, which was the home of the society until 2004.

Margaret also helped secure a Queensland Government grant to renovate Laguna to accommodate a larger stage, costume room, dressing rooms, library and prop workshop.

In 2003, Margaret led the 100th anniversary celebrations for the society involving many of the city's cultural organisations. The celebrations culminated in a concert in Toowoomba's Empire Theatre.

Thanks to the dedication of volunteers such as Margaret, the Toowoomba Philharmonic Society continues to play a significant role in the cultural life of the city as it has done since 1905.
