2007 Seniors Week events and photo gallery

Fun Day and Expo at South Bank

Seniors Week 2007 came alive on Sunday, 19 August at the Sunday Fun Day at South Bank in Brisbane. Seniors, family and friends enjoyed free food and entertainment, and lots of activities in and around the Suncorp Piazza.

Many Queensland businesses also used the day to showcase a huge range of products and services at the Seniors Card Expo, where they offered special discount prices under the Queensland Government’s Seniors Card business discount scheme.

Seniors Week forum

As part of Seniors Week 2007, the department hosted a forum on Tuesday, 21 August for private and public policy-makers to increase understanding of the social and economic impacts of the ageing population.

Sharing their insights and experiences as educational and social leaders were:

  1. Dr Evonne Miller, Lecturer, Centre for Social Change Research, Queensland University of Technology

    Implications of research into the myths and realities of ageing in the 21st Century.

  2. Dr Jeni Warburton, Senior Research Fellow, Australasian Centre on Ageing, University of Queensland

    Responding to the changing demographics of culturally and linguistically diverse older people.

  3. Grant Sarra, Consultant

    Excerpt from the department’s Digital Storytelling Project highlighting the journey, contribution and learnings of a Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander older person.
