As the first stage in the development of a Queensland seniors' strategy, the Premier launched a discussion paper, Positively Ageless - Developing a Queensland seniors' strategy | . This discussion paper provided information about the government's investment in services and the important contribution seniors make to our community.
Consultation forums were held in 14 locations across the state to gather first-hand feedback from Queensland Seniors. Forums were held in Brisbane, Cairns, Townsville, Barcaldine, Logan, Toowoomba, Caboolture, Inala, Rockhampton, Mackay, Gold Coast and Bundaberg. During the consultation period, more than 720 participants attended the forums, and more than 220 written and online responses were received. The department appreciates the input provided throughout the consultation period, and the contribution of participants to achieve improved outcomes for Queensland seniors.
About the strategy
The Queensland Government is developing a whole-of-government approach for the way we support seniors into the future. The strategy will identify priority areas for action with an emphasis on making positive changes for seniors who are vulnerable, disadvantaged or socially isolated.
Our aim is to ensure seniors feel safe, supported and have access to appropriate services. To achieve this, we are keen to explore ideas for working in partnership across government as well as with business and the community.
The strategy and action plan for seniors is expected to be released in the first half of 2010.
