Why your business should join the scheme
Joining Seniors Business Discount Card scheme is free and there are no ongoing costs or fees attached to membership.
Nearly 80% of Queenslanders aged over 60 have a Seniors Card or Seniors Business Discount Card. Seniors Card receives up to 40,000 new applications each year. Because the Seniors Card and Seniors Business Discount Card are not means tested, card holders are both pensioners and self-funded retirees.
Research has shown that in most cases Seniors Card and Seniors Business Discount Card holders prefer a business offering a seniors discount over a similar business which does not. Seniors say they feel noticed and welcomed by operators displaying a Seniors Card/Seniors Business Discount Card sticker. They feel recognised as a valued customer and know that their business is wanted and appreciated by the operator.
Any business that trades in products or services that older people would use, can benefit from joining the Seniors Card Business Discount scheme.
The over-60s segment of the population is interested in travel, health and fitness, household services, family fun, convenience, information services, investment and financial services, safety and security. Seniors seek discounts from a diverse range of businesses including those catering to younger people.
The Seniors Business Discount Card scheme is open to any business that wants to attract this market segment. Participating businesses may be:
- Situated anywhere in Queensland.
- National businesses with Queensland outlets.
- Online or mail order businesses anywhere in Australia offering discounts to all Queensland.
What is required of participating businesses?
Participating businesses are required to offer some form of discount or a "value added" service or product for free. The offer must be available to all our card holders.
The discount or free service or product must be a genuine offer and is subject to the Fair Trading Act 1989 where false or misleading advertising may lead to prosecution. This offer will be published in the Business Discount Directory for Seniors and Carers.
You will be provided with Seniors Card/Seniors Business Discount Card signs and stickers to display in your place of business to promote the fact that you provide a discount to Seniors Card and Seniors Business Discount Card holders. You are required to display this signage. The best place to display these materials is on or near the cash register and in your shop window.
