About domestic and family violence prevention

The department supports prevention, early intervention and crisis responses, including specialist services for people affected by domestic and family violence. These services aim to reduce its incidence and the impact it has on children, families and communities.

The department monitors the effectiveness of the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 1989 in protecting people in intimate relationships from violence.

Confidential support and advice for women affected by domestic violence is available by phoning dvconnect Womensline on 1800 811 811 (24 hours, 7 days a week).
