Help services available
People affected by domestic and family violence can seek support by contacting:
- dvconnect - Womensline 1800 811 811 (free call*):
- 24-hour telephone service for people experiencing domestic and family violence. This service provides information, telephone counselling and referral to refuges for women and their children who are in danger.
- dvconnect - Mensline 1800 600 636 (free call*):
- provides advice on healthy relationships and assistance to men affected by domestic and family violence, including support to change abusive behaviour.
- Kids Help Line 1800 55 1800 (free call*):
- available 24-hours for counselling, support and information.

Regional and domestic and family violence services
These services provide a range of supports and assistance to people experiencing domestic and family violence. Many also have information on counselling services available for people who use abusive behaviour in their relationships.Immigrant Women's Support Service (IWSS) - 07 3846 3490
IWSS is a community based organisation which works with women and children of non-English speaking background who are or have been in violent domestic situations. The service also provides support to women who have experienced rape and/or sexual assault. It is a crisis and support service which provides culturally appropriate support, information, short-term counselling and referral.Court support services
A network of 25 court assistance services are funded to provide court-based information and support to people experiencing domestic and family violence who are accessing Magistrates Courts for a protection order under the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 1989.
Refuges and crisis accommodation
Women's refuges are a safe place for women and children escaping domestic and family violence. The Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) which is jointly funded by the Queensland and Commonwealth Governments, provides funding for services across Queensland for women and children escaping domestic and family violence including safe and secure crisis accommodation for women and children affected by domestic and family violence. Women seeking refuge can contact dvconnect for a referral or their local regional domestic and family violence service.
Counselling
In addition to those services offered by specialist domestic and family violence services, counselling is also offered for women, children and men by a range of community agencies throughout Queensland. All of these services have branches in most major centres and offer specialist domestic and family violence counselling. These services include:
