Youth Engagement Grants
What do the grants fund and who can apply?
Youth Engagement Grants provide local governments and community organisations in Queensland with an opportunity to fund projects for young people (aged 12 to 25). Grants are awarded to projects that provide opportunities for young people to both raise issues of relevance with government and community and implement projects to address these issues.
How much money is available?
Youth Engagement Grants of up to $20,000 per year have been allocated for two years to organisations in each of the ten Department of Communities regions. A total of $200 000 per annum is provided by the department under the Youth Engagement Grants program.
Examples of previous projects
The following is a selection of successful project applications that gained funding in previous years:
The Darumbal-Noolar Murree Aboriginal Corporation for Land and Culture identified Indigenous youth suicide in the Rockhampton area as a major social problem. They conducted a community youth forum which provided young people with an opportunity to identify issues, develop solutions and produce an action plan. This project provided young people with the opportunity to work with government and non-government agencies to implement a Youth Suicide Action Plan for Rockhampton and surrounding areas.
The Sarina District Youth Council and the Valley (Mirani) District Youth Council organised a regional youth symposium, 'Take Me Seriously'. Over 60 young people participated in workshops, forums and youth policy development. Following the symposium, the Youth Councils conducted follow-up meetings between young people and the Shire Councils of Sarina and Mirani resulting in the development and launching of Youth Polices for each shire.
