Youth suicide prevention
The Queensland Government Suicide Prevention Strategy 2003-2008 adopted a whole-of-life suicide prevention framework that identifies young people as a priority population group. This department contributed to the strategy in the following ways:
- Gallang Place Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation has been funded to deliver the Brisbane-based Indigenous Youth Suicide Prevention Program
- Royal Flying Doctor Service has been funded to deliver the Cape York Youth Initiatives Program in Aurukun, Coen, Kowanyama, Lockhart River and Pormpuraaw
- resources which promote good practice in suicide and self-harm preventionwere developed, and can be found at: http://www.communities.qld.gov.au/community/suicide_prevention/resources
- Lifeline Community Care Brisbane delivered the Young Refugees Suicide and Self-harm Awareness and Support Initiative
- Open Doors Youth Service Inc was allocated one-off funding to deliver the Young Lesbian, Gay, bisexual and Transgender Suicide and Self-harm Awareness and Support Initiative.
