Case management responsibilities
To explain:
- who is responsible for managing a young person's youth justice case
- the responsibilities of departmental officers when a young person moves within Queensland, or interstate or overseas during their supervised order; or moves from interstate to Queensland during their order.

Explains the case plan, including the process of development and maintenance.

General case management issues
To explain the process for managing complex youth justice cases and responding to general case management issues.

To explain who is responsible for recording suicide risk, escape and medical alerts and actions to be taken by departmental officers in response to these events occurring.
Section 2. Tools

Identifying and reporting harm of a young person
To define harm and to identify the responsibilities of a departmental officer when they suspect a young person has been, or is at risk of being, harmed.

Working with the Department of Child Safety
To identify when and how a caseworker responds to service requests and exchanges information with the Department of Child Safety and the Child Safety After Hours Service Centre.

Arranging a court ordered psychological or psychiatric assessment
To explain the roles and responsibilities of a departmental officer when a court requests a psychological and/or psychiatric assessment of a young person, and to provide guidance on how to engage a practitioner to undertake the assessment.
Section 3. Young people, police and the courts

Police questioning, charging, arresting, bail and custody
To explain the process and responsibilities of departmental officers when the police apprehend, question or charge a young person, consider bail or take a young person into custody.

- the purpose of youth justice conferencing
- how a young person is referred to a youth justice conference
- the responsibilities of departmental officers for undertaking a conference and in developing, implementing and monitoring a conference agreement.

Role of the departmental officer in court
To explain the roles and responsibilities of a departmental officer when they prepare for court, attend court and take action following the court proceedings. This chapter also explains the roles of other court personnel and court etiquette.

To explain the process and responsibilities of departmental officers when the court considers a bail application, grants a bail application, or refuses a bail application and orders that a young person is taken into custody.
