Victim Information Register
The Victim Information Register provides current information to registered victims about young people who have committed, or are alleged to have committed, sexual or violent offences against them.
Information is available to:
- victims of sexual offences or offences involving personal violence
- a member of the immediate family or dependant of a victim
- a person who has suffered harm in intervening to help a victim.
Registration form
To find out if you are eligible to receive information, complete the registration form and mail it, and a photocopy of an identifying document, to the Victim Information Register Officer (free post).
Complete the registration form as fully as possible to enable the Victim Information Register Officer to respond to you.
The Victim Information Register Officer will determine your eligibility to receive information and notify you as soon as possible.
Insufficient identifying information may delay or prevent the Department of Communities from determining your eligibility to receive information.
Type of information you can receive
- the start date and length of sentence imposed on a young offender
- the fact that the alleged young offender has absconded before trial
- eligibility dates for the young offender to have staged release into the community, release date from detention and final discharge date
- the fact that the young offender has been transferred interstate or overseas under a scheme for the transfer of persons imprisoned or detained under sentence
- the fact that the young offender has escaped from custody while under sentence
- further cumulative sentences imposed on a young offender while in custody for the offence.
The information is provided under Section 15(2) of the Criminal Offence Victims Act 1995.
Information provided about young offenders is supplied to assist victims of crime and should be treated as confidential.
